Mount Moriah to play the 40 Watt tonight.
Mount Moriah began as a collaboration between Heather McIntyre and Jenks Miller, fellow residents of Chapel Hill, NC and coworkers at a local record store who were both involved in other musical projects at the time - McIntyre with her rock band Bellafea and Miller recording under the moniker Horseback. Their first project together was pop band Un Deux Trois, but Mount Moriah was born out of their mutual desire to explore their southern gospel roots and create something a bit deeper and more mature.
Their debut self-titled LP came out originally in the summer of 2011 on their own label, Holidays for Quince, and was quickly picked up by Merge for a rerelease in October 2012. Sophomore effort Miracle Temple came the following year and continues to push the boundaries of traditional folk music.
You can catch them in Athens tonight opening for M. Ward at the 40 Watt. Doors at 8. Show sat 9. Get yo tickets here.
