After two years of touring for their debut record, Weathervanes, the self-proclaimed collectors of instruments, Freelance Whales, took to studios in Hoboken, Brooklyn, and Manhattan to rediscover their creative process. The resulting collection of songs entitled Diluvia was released last October on Mom and Pop/Frenchkiss Records to praise from the likes of NPR, Paste, The Onion, and MTV. You could probably still get away with calling their sound indie folk, but there's so much more going on here than that description would lead one to believe. You can (and should) stream the record on Spotify or the band's website.
They're back on the road supporting the release and will be stopping through Athens on January 26 to play the fabulous 40 Watt. Also on the bill is impressive upcoming Gainesville, FL group Hundred Waters. You can get tickets here.
